Pangur Ban & Aisling Update

Pangur Ban by Kendra M Gilbert, Virgo's Alchemy Studio

I started this piece what seems ages ago...but I'm finally back in the studio. I decided I didn't like the original Aisling I sculpted because her ears were too pointy...yes I could have chopped them off and just re-sculpted the ears, but no, I felt the project needed a fresh new start - so I'm totally redoing her.

Pangur Ban is an awesome little kitty from The Secret of Kells children's movie.

He is enchanted by Aisling, the forest spirit, to help Brendan escape from his bedroom...

Hellooooo!

Hi there! I've been a little MIA for awhile, and although I'm more active on social media, I know that I should be updating my website on a more regular basis. It's just been hard keeping up. Anyway, I thought you might like to see what I've been up to.

5mm total size, 2.5 mm iris, computer generated

Making my own eyes has been a passion for a very long time. I LOVE experimenting with new techniques and products. So, needless to say, it will more than likely be an everlasting obsession.

5mm total size, 2.5mm iris. Hand painted.

I'm not a huge fan of computer generated irises, but, you got to admit, they look pretty darn awesome. With that being said, I still enjoy hand painting my own irises.

As you may or may not know, I have a tutorial that shows how I make my eyes, and then for those who purchase my tutorial, I have a special closed Facebook group called "Let's Make Eyes!" where I continue to share all my research findings, product reviews and other things related to making handmade eyes for Figurative Sculptures.

One of the biggest things is finding products that we can use to create the life-like glassy dome lenses of our tiny masterpieces. Many issues can arise like shrinkage, yellowing, mutating and all sorts of delightful things... lol

So, that is why I find it so rewarding when I find a product that works, or works well enough - but I will always be searching for new and improved products and methods to create one of the most important aspects of my work - the eyes!

I hope you have enjoyed this update! More coming soon! And if you are interested in learning more about my tutorial, please see this post here where I tell you where you can find it! My Etsy shop is currently closed while I get myself back into the swing of things, but you can find my tutorial on AforArtistic.com and Ooakartistemporium.com! Thanks for stopping by!

Healing the Pains of Loss through Art...

My Sister, My Angel, My Light

My Sister, My Angel, My Light

For you Sis, I Love You, Always

For those who know me personally, and are close to me on social media, know that I just lost two very special women in my life. My one and only Sister due to metastatic breast cancer, and my Grandmother, who although was already struggling with declining health, I feel passed when she no longer felt my Sister's presence here on this earthly plane - they were very close. Feeling the magnitude of these losses so closely together made the entire world feel as if it had started to crumble beneath my feet. I'm still processing these losses, and thankfully I have a very good support system with a loving husband, beautiful children, and other family and friends who have been there for me. As an introvert, processing this type of pain is even more difficult for me. I have had to really fight not wanting to simply withdrawal myself and literally disappear. It's a pain that runs deep, and anyone who has experienced the loss of loved ones knows exactly what I mean. The roller coaster of emotions; going from happy memories, to regret, then delving into deep sadness, and even anger. It's been a very challenging few weeks, and I will always consider the year 2018 as the year I lost a major part of my heart and soul.
